LAECR PUBLIC STATEMENT ON ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE TAX
May 22, 2015
Louisiana Association of Electronic Cigarette Retailers
Public Statement on Electronic Cigarette Tax
We believe that any taxation of electronic cigarettes or their components is both unfair and undue. A tax would increase prices to a point that we (Louisiana business owners) would not be able to compete with interstate commerce, that would not be subject to these taxes, and would put an unfair burden on our businesses.
Louisiana has long said publicly that it wants people to quit smoking. Louisiana has long said publicly that it wants small businesses to create jobs and revenue. We believe that this tax would go against both of those statements and kill this sect of commerce in this state.
